Harry Brook is an English cricketer who plays international cricket for England and domestic cricket for Yorkshire. He is a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium bowler who made his international debut in January 2022. She has scored 1,181 runs in 12 Test matches, 251 runs in 10 ODI matches and 494 runs in 6 T20I matches.
Early life and education
Brook was born in Keighley but raised in Burley in Wharfedale. His family were active in club cricket. He was educated at Ilkley Grammar School, a comprehensive school in Ilkley, West Yorkshire. At the age of 14, he left having been offered a scholarship at Sedbergh School, a private boarding school in Cumbria. Journalist Alex Mason reported for the Cricketer Magazine that former professional cricketer and Sedbergh School cricket coach Martin Speight was a very big influence on Brook’s career during his schooldays.
Domestic career
Brook made his first-class debut for Yorkshire against Pakistan A on 26 June 2016 at Headingley whilst still at school. He made his County Championship debut for Yorkshire against Middlesex at Lord’s on 19 June 2017. His debut followed a series of three centuries scored within a fortnight for Yorkshire’s second eleven. He made his Twenty20 debut for Yorkshire in the 2018 t20 Blast on 5 July 2018. He was signed by Northern Superchargers for The Hundred 2021 tournament. She also played for Hobart Hurricanes, Lahore Qalandars and Sunrisers Hyderabad in various T20 leagues around the world.
International career
Brook toured India in early 2017 with the England under-19s, playing in two U-19 Tests and five U-19 LOIs against the India under-19s. He was named the captain of the England under-19 team for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He scored 239 runs in six matches, including a century against Bangladesh, and led his team to the quarter-finals.
Brook made his senior international debut for England in a T20I match against West Indies on 26 January 2022. He scored 28 runs off 18 balls and took a catch in the field. He was part of the England cricket team that won the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, scoring 81 runs off 45 balls in the semi-final against India.
Brook made his Test debut for England against
South Africa on 8 September 2022 at Old Trafford. He scored 53 runs in the first innings and 32 runs in the second innings, helping England win by an innings and 88 runs. He travelled to Pakistan and New Zealand with Ben Stokes’ team, where he peeled off consecutive scores of 153, 87, 9, 111, 89, 54, and 186 to take his overall tally to 809 runs in nine innings, at an extraordinary strike-rate of 98.77. No player in Test history had started with a bigger bang – Vinod Kambli had 796 runs after his own ninth innings – and not even Brook’s anticlimactic tenth innings (run out without facing in England’s thrilling one-run defeat at Wellington) could take the gloss off his achievement.
Brook continued his impressive form in the home series against Australia in 2023, scoring 372 runs in five matches, including two centuries and two fifties.
